US Special Forces, Staff Sargeant Ethan Stone, lives by one mantra “fight or die”.
The army is his life, his men are his family. So when an injury sends him home from Afghanistan, the nightmares of what he’s witnessed can no longer be kept at bay. The alcohol he drowns himself in every night only sinks him further into depression’s abyss. Waking after one of his benders, Stone is greeted by a tiny, knife wielding firecracker and one destroyed bar.
Saddles, was meant to be her escape. A new start away from an abusive relationship and a way to fulfill her daddy’s dying wish. But all the bar has brought Shannon is debt collectors and pushy buyers threatening to destroy her. The last thing she needs is a handsome, angry soldier to distract her.
All he wanted, was to pay for the damages. But when she refuses there is only one thing he can do. But when a familiar face from his past changes everything, can they learn to work together?
Will they find salvation in each other’s arms?

There were things about this book I liked but others that brought me out of the story in disbelief. A abuse victim should never willingly be involved in a relationship that has alcoholic and anger issues. I'm not saying that military men with PTSD shouldn't be in relationships, not at all! I'm saying, he should have gotten professional help to deal with his issues rather than leaning on his partner, who clearly has unresolved issues of her own. It's not weakness. It's being human and having every right to need help. The fact that she could magically make him better was a little to...seriously?!?!??!?!? For me. I found myself saying to her...love him but don't enable him. Over and over. Plus Keets and Ruth drove me nuts! Um leaving your friend with a man who is drunk, angry, and not even her boyfriend is not ok. I felt like this book was saying it's ok for people not to get help from a professional and it's ok to use your partner as a crutch. Plus... why didn't she come forward about Troy? Walk the walk and all that... parts I liked? I liked their first meeting. I liked the passion between them. I liked Grace. I REALLY liked Grace. I fell for Keets...he would have been MY choice. I'll read this again but it has issues.Product details

If I could it would be 10 out of 10!! )
I was very lucky in being gifted a copy of this new exciting book by Cherry Shephard and was sooooo worth the wait and teasers!!
This is a story packed full or emotion, many times so raw. It tells of Shannon Harper, her life and the inheritance of her fathers bar - Saddles; that she escapes her previous life to. The way you wrote that part of her was heartbreaking, but also good in that she pulled herself out for a better life.
There she meets Ethan Stone, an ex Vet, who has a dark past he buries in alcohol. Trying to drown the vivid memories of his war experiences that Ms Cherry writes so well.
The two start off somewhat volatile, but with time and their good friends, more comes of the time they are together. They fight, love and struggle along their path as each grows building a lasting relationship.
The struggle reflects each of their pasts, that sadly comes to the fore for Shannon. She learns more about her fathers passing and the truth is revealed in time, thank god! Then we have Stone discovering he is a father and having to take on that responsibility he is so ill equipped to handle right then.
I love Stone’s son coming out of his shell, though felt for Ruth and Keets. I know you will put us all out our misery in good time! ;)
Woman..!!!! You had me laughing, angry and crying at times for each of them! Thank you again and will eagerly await more in this series to enjoy and re read, as I’m sure I will. )
Stone is a man with a troubled military past who is trying to move on with his life. It's a long hard road but he will eventually get there.
Shannon is a woman escaping a brutal relationship, mourning the death of her father and owner of Saddles a local Texas bar.
When these two meet the fireworks most definitely explode. Yes they have their fair share of fights and misunderstandings, but it's the building of their friendship that is the main crux of this story.
Stone must deal with his past causing him untold nightmares, but he must also deal with a secret that has been kept from him for years - a secret that will change his entire life.
Stone's best friend Meets, is a highlight in this book. He's straight forward and doesn't let Stone get away anything. I look forward to reading more about Mr Keets.
Congrats Cherry on a wonderful book. It was thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. It pulled me in from the first word and kept me in a trance until the last. Exceptional.
FIVE STARS CHERRY
Why did I wait so long to read this book! What a great start to a series... Stone an imperfectly perfect but damaged soldier back home from the atrocities in Afghanistan. Trying to survive in the real world, and falling into the bottle to try and silence the screams of his nightmares and the 16 year old girl he couldn't save in Afghanistan. Shannon escapes from a nightmare of an ex moving back to her home town to take over her dads bar Saddles, after he was tragically killed in a horrific riding accident... But was it an accident??! Shannon & Stone fall into a torrid affair that is overshadowed by Stone's dying wife returning with a surprise son he never knew he had... The booze, the child will it all be too much or can their love survive and save their imperfectly perfect family! Highly recommend this book I picked it up and didn't put it down until it was finished.
Stone & Shannon's story is definitely aptly named. It's messy & chaotic & there's a lot of push & pull. There's a mystery or two woven in, as well.
I LOVED the story itself, the bones of it, the characters, the relationships. I didn't love the confusing back & forth that kept happening. At least in the beginning, it felt like the POV was coming from the wrong person for certain aspects of the story. It made it hard to connect w/ them, because the scenes were told from the reactionary party's POV rather than the person acting. This meant that at first both Shannon & Stone seemed completely off-kilter & I couldn't get a grip on them. This annoyed me.
As the story progressed, this got better, and I was able to lose myself in their world. I really enjoyed the twists (even tho I figured them out way before our characters!) & thought they were all very clever. And once I got swept away in the story, I liked it. )
